Dividend Stocks for the Long Run: Colgate-Palmolive

Colgate-Palmolive (CL), a leading consumer products company (oral care, personal care, home care and pet nutrition), is a great stock to own for a long-term dividend-reinvestment portfolio.

The company has a multi-year record of increasing its dividend. For the 31 years from January 1977 to January 2008, CL increased its quarterly dividend at a 8.65 percent annualized rate.

And its stock has performed even better. From May 1977 to May 2008 the stock appreciated at a 19.37 percent annualized rate. Except for the sideways trading band from 1999 to 2004, the stock has been on the price upside.
