Metabolix Is a Player In the Biobased Plastics RevolutionMetabolix (MBLX), a biotechnology company specializing in biobased plastics, biobased chemicals and bioenergy, has developed Mirel, a polymer produced from biomass. According to the BusinessWeek article (June 19, 2008), I Have Just One Word for You: Bioplastics, Metabolix is competing with DuPont (DD), Cargill, Braskem (BAK), Toray Industries and many startups that are making plastics from everything from potatoes to tapioca. MBLX is trading in a sideways pattern after declining from its all-time
high. It seems that investors are treading water until they see if Mirel
can be a money maker.
